The entire membership of AMTNYS acknowledges with pride our accomplishments in helping prospective teachers of mathematics.

AMTNYS began the scholarship program in 1987 with 1 award. The following year, we awarded 2 scholarships. In 1994, with the generous support of its membership, we incresed the number of scholarships to 3 awards. We currently award four scholarships to assist a worthy few, who are currently studying to be math teachers.

This money is primarily raised by donations given by members and friends to The AMTNYS Scholarship Fund. (Simply indicate your donation on your membership form)

In addition, the members of the Scholarship Sales Committee take on the responsibility of raising additional dollars from the sale of teaching aids, novelty items, educational games, and shirts at our Annual Conferences. About fifty volunteer members of this committee help in many ways to make this possible. Volunteers are the backbone of AMTNYS.

Won't you join us?

- Ona Masters

Scholarship Sales Committee (SSC) at the Annual Fall Conference

At the conference, we have a sales booth with all types of items for sale. All proceeds go to support our scholarship program. Won't you please stop by and support our future teachers? We also coordinate sales of NCTM materials at the same booth.

Come take a look and take home something from the conference; for your classroom, or just for yourself.

Either way, we'd like to see you.

All SSC volunteers get a free "thank you" gift.

Gift and Tax Planning Ideas

The reasons why people make charitable gifts to the Scholarship Fund may include:
  • It's a win-win situation by helping increase our pool of future math teachers
  • A heart-felt desire to help others
  • A close affiliation with AMTNYS
  • A sense of personal gratification
  • A recognition of the best and brightest of our future math teachers
  • A way to honor and memorialize people
  • A possible tax deduction for those that itemize on tax returns
Although tax savings rarely rank as a donor's primary motivation, favorable tax treatment can help make your gifts more affordable. For example, if you give $1,000 and are in the 36% tax bracket, you pay $360 less in taxes. If you are in a higher tax bracket, your savings are even greater. All transactions affecting taxes due in April must be taken no later than December 31st.

If you are interested in making a donation, please make your check out to AMTNYS Scholarship Fund and send it to Ms. Linda Pearles, 186 Bittersweet Dr., Farmington, NY 14425-7017

Thanks for helping our future math teachers!
